After a Texas Hail Storm: The 24-Hour Roof Checklist

Most insurance claims fail because evidence is collected too late. This is the checklist we walk every homeowner through within the first 24 hours.

Hail and high wind events in San Antonio rarely give you a second chance. Documentation captured in the first 24 hours is the difference between an approved claim and a denial letter.

Photograph hail on a flat reference surface within minutes — it melts faster than you think.

§Inside the home

  • Check ceilings under every roof valley for wet spots or stains.
  • Open the attic during daylight and look for pinholes of light.
  • Photograph any new water marks the same day, with timestamps.
  • Note the time and approximate hail size if you saw the event.

§Around the perimeter

  • Look for dents on gutters, downspouts, and AC fins.
  • Photograph fallen tree limbs and where they landed.
  • Check window screens and patio furniture for impact marks.
  • Walk the fence line. Damaged fence panels date the storm.

Visible damage like this is rare. Most storm damage hides under intact-looking shingles.

Do not climb the roof. Hail bruising is hard to see from the ground and dangerous to chase wet. Call us, send your photos, and we will run a documented inspection at no cost. If a claim makes sense, we will help you prepare the file. If it does not, we will tell you that too.

An honest inspection report is worth more than a rushed claim. Insurance carriers respect documentation, not pressure.
